Oftentimes, believing in yourself is an extremely hard exercise, especially for those few who show traces of low self-esteem. Always remember, individuals from both service and business verticals, that if you do not have belief in yourself, you simply cannot make your employers/employees, investors, well-wishers, partners, customers believe that you can change the world. You must have heard how “the only person who can pull you down is yourself. . .”

Doubting your skills and never believing yourself of being worthy is an imposter syndrome, and change keep you from achieving the success and making the difference. You have to believe and know that you can and will bring about the change. Even In the professional athletes’ space and sporting events, you will hear the phrase “Believe in yourself” so frequently that you’d believe the sporting professionals can’t do without the phrase. The beginning of self-motivation and super confidence, here are how you can instil the belief in you:

Love Yourself: Simply love yourself. Be kind to your body and be positive toward your surroundings. You are more capable and worthy than you think you are. Don’t criticise yourself too much, don’t be your worst enemy, stay cool and calm. The most important opinion about you is your own.

Never Give Up: Keep trying until you have achieved what you have wanted to. Never give up and surrender to the situation, however worse. Always strive to do better, to keep trying until you are excellent at it. Once you take the chosen road ahead, don’t ever look back. Steer ahead and be a winner!

Positive begets Positive: A positive approach helps you see opportunity within challenges; it helps you take good decisions. When we find ourselves in a difficult situation which pulls us down, the only way we can come back on top is by quitting negativity and building a habit of positivity. Find reasons to smile and look positive. It’s cheap and makes you look better, too.

Be Aware: There are incidents which have made you feel inferior and insecure, and have bogged you down to the level of no return. It could be anything, right from a past sour experience to getting bullied, to feeling physically inferior to someone, to feeling not-so-worthy – the first thing you should do is to identify what these are and become aware of their existence in your life. Half the battle is won if you are simply aware of them. Once aware, you can start working to negate them.

Everyone has dreams and there are different ways in which every person approaches his/her dreams. Some people are able bring their dreams to life while others cannot, however hard they try. The successful lot often consists of a majority that do things differently to realise their dreams. While you might be on top of your game or catching up to get there, why to not take your cues from how successful individuals do it?

There are certain behaviours and habits, vis-a-vis work, common to the successful lot. Before imbibing the best from them, let us also know that there is no “Jaadu ki Chadi” or “Magic Pill” that can result into your becoming an instant success. Based on experience, every day is a new day, every challenge is an opportunity to realise their full potential and every passing moment is important for them. Let us now read what successful people do differently, and how:

They Work Hard: First things first, they never shy away from putting their best foot forward, even if that means spending more hours with a thought, which needs time and is not getting resolved. They are a patient race, would often manage a couple of tasks at once, without quitting from their responsibilities.

They Seize the Moment and Never Waste Time: They do not dwell upon what went wrong in the past and never feel sorry for themselves. They seize the moment and work on their tasks. They live in the moment. There are times when you might miss onto the to-do-tasks of the day, reasoning out with yourself with other things that kept you busy. They plan meticulously and specifically ahead of the tasks, ruling out discrepancies.

They Do Not Please Everyone: Because it is not in their control, and being the realistic optimist that they are, never even try to. They are downright professional in their approach and would not mind anyone badmouthing their decisions. They concentrate on getting it right every time, without thinking much about the consequences.

They are Positive: They are positive about realising their dream and have faith in their approach. They are not easily influenced by other people’s successes; rather they take the right cues and try to imbibe the good habits of more successful people around them.

Experts suggest that successful people do not realise their dreams just because of an innate characteristic that separates them from the rest or because they were born with a “go-getter attitude”. It is not because of who they are or where they come from, but about what they did to become a success. Quitters wants to know the reasons behind your success, are they any different from the ones listed here. If yes, write in to us and share your story with the world.

Be Successful! Enjoy the Journey!

Work Without Any Ego

Ego at work needs to be handled. In a challenging and competitive environment, egos will certainly clash. It could either be your employer’s ego or of somebody reporting in to you or even yours. Flaring tempers at work can impact the quality of work life, resulting into unnecessary stress and uncomfortable situations. You need to keep egos at bay to nurture a better work environment. Detach yourself from your ego or find ways to cope with challenges without your ego getting in the way.

Be a Good Team Player: When working on something that requires contribution from various departments in office, your focus should be on completing the project successfully. Don’t force upon others in the team your superiority or the disillusioned fact that no one can be right except you. Develop a tolerance level and learn to see beyond yourself. When working in a team, work like a team player and let go of your ego.

Give Colleagues a Confidence Boost: How many of you have been able to get your work done without scolding and shouting? Try giving people a confidence boost. When dealing with a person with ego problems, make him feel important by asking for suggestions and seeing how best they can be accommodated. By doing this you are not only making him feel in complete charge and ownership of the task, but also getting the necessary information.

Share the Credit: You need to be proud of your achievements, but not in an exaggerated kind of way. Be generous. Share the credit with the team, your peers and bosses, command lasting respect, fight unprofessionalism. Remain sincere in your approach and keep a check on your ego.

All That Matters is Work: At the end of the day, it is the work that matters. You have joined an organisation to work and learn, to experience and to grow. If you get obsessed with issues concerning yours or other person’s ego, you may not be able to nurture a positive working environment, resulting in loss of man-hours and, subsequently, work.

So, the bottom line is that you should help create a dynamic and friendly work environment showing tolerance towards different behaviours and values, while having your head firmly over shoulders when dealing with disagreements. Has your work ever got affected due to ego, regardless of its perpetrator, or are you a cool cucumber under testing environments? Share your stories with us by writing in to us.
